The Government-backed Gigabit Voucher Scheme provides funding towards the cost of full-fibre broadband connections to small businesses (SMEs). Residential properties can be included provided they can be grouped together with one or more SMEs as one application, and the total residential claim does not exceed the SME claim. For businesses the vouchers have a value of up to £3,000 and for residential customers, £500.
Full details of the scheme can be found on the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) website at https://gigabitvoucher.culture.gov.uk
For F4RN, the voucher scheme means that we can extend our fibre optic network beyond the boundaries set by our original community share offer. Ideally we would like to work with groups of like-minded people who are willing to help build the network, learn new skills and make new friends in the process. As a Community Benefit Society, any surplus we generate is put straight back into the business and the community, which helps us to keep our prices low and avoid annual price increases. It also means that we are able to respond very quickly to the rare problems that occasionally crop up!
